We are not different
people when we die, writes Gretchen Vogel in her book Choices In The
Afterlife. We continue with the same sense of humor, memories, coping
skills, spiritual beliefs and personality, but without the physical
body that we identified so strongly with in life. Also, she writes,we
don't go anywhere at first; we stay near familiar people and places
until we get used to this next way of being.
In her book Vogel
describes what we do after death in terms of these four processes:
self realization, assimilation, healing and progression. Where we
choose to go is also detailed in levels of experience until we make
the ultimate choice, to return to God/Source, which is the heaven
that our religions speak of, or to remain within the potential for
another lifetime on earth, a choice understood as reincarnation.
Vogel has been a
practicing trance medium since the early 80s, and continues to bring
comfort to grieving families with her telephone readings. Although
every client has a different story, Vogel became fascinated with the
similarities and was able to organize the deceased experience into a
explanation of the array of choices we will have. Vogel maintains
that the afterlife is as subjective an experience as life is, so no
one can say there is one code, formula or way that death and the
afterlife happens.
Vogel hopes her book will help people
to stop fearing what comes next for us and benefit from what this
understanding can mean in our life. You can see more of her work
